In response the Governmental Information Office issued a statement where Premier Wu voiced condemnation on such activities and asked police to track the gang responsible for committing this crime. According to reports, about 70 people entered the eatery that serves Cantonese-style food on Dec. 6 in Tainan City. Instead of sitting together, each occupied a six-seat round table for two hours while ordering food amounted less than NT$200. Other guests were prevented from entering the eatery upon seeing a sign that said the restaurant is closed to the public. From news sources, the 70-plus group employed this tactic to threaten business allegedly because of a dispute between the restaurant's co-owners. The Criminal Investigation Bureau (CIB) stated although the practice of occupying seats appear legal, with sufficient evidences, police could still charge the gang with Intimidation and Organized Crime Prevention Act, Police has acquired video evidences from the restaurant and the main suspect is now under investigation. The Tainan District Prosecutors Office has also launched an investigation on the case, reported NPA. Another related crime led by a man surnamed Tang was busted in Taipei yesterday. CIB reported that this nine-member gang aims at practicing illegal debt collection to threaten business through activities such as occupying seats and spreading paints.
