'Wig-snatcher' sued for defaming KMT lawmaker

TAINAN, Taiwan -- A Democratic Progressive Party supporter was indicted for slandering a lawmaker of opposite party yesterday in Tainan.

The man, Huang Yong-tian was detained in 2008 for snatching off a wig from a Kuomintang lawmaker Chiu Yi outside the Control Yuan and sentenced to five months and penalties can be commuted to fines in October by the high court.

However, Huang printed Chiu's wig-dropping picture on his name cards for running Councilor election in Tainan City this April when the city was not yet being upgraded and distributed the cards to the public.

Huang also claimed in a TV interview that Chiu have interfered with the judiciary system but Chiu filed a complaint of such opinion.

The Tainan prosecutors searched for Huang's residence and forfeited all the pictures and name cards. The prosecutors said that Huang injured Chiu's reputation and was indicted for slander.
