CIB to assist in Tainan NT$77 mil. robbery case

TAINAN, Taiwan -- The Criminal Investigation Bureau (CIB) announced yesterday it will help investigate a major Tainan robbery, by far the largest case of its kind ever in Taiwan, which has shocked police and residents.

The victim, surnamed Tsai, a Tainan gold wholesaler, was robbed of NT$77 million in cash by three masked gunmen on Tuesday in front of his nephew's clock store.

The gunmen grabbed the huge stash of cash and shot Tsai's wife in the foot before fleeing in a getaway sedan; the whole robbery happened in less than 30 seconds, local media reported.

In addition to Tainan police, CIB will investigate the case, as a large sum of money was involved, CIB said yesterday. The CIB is now collaborating with Tainan police to expand the investigation.
