To promote the tradition and preserve its value, Tainan County has been organizing the unique dowry festival and inviting couples across the nation to say 'I do' in a Taiwanese-style wedding ceremony for three consecutive years. Grooms donning traditional suits, accompanied by matchmakers and relatives, embarked on the short trip to pick their brides up. After picking the brides up, the couples bade farewell to their parents in a traditional san-ho-yuan before looping around the town in a three-wheel rickshaw, in which the couples sit to receive blessings. Relatives escorting the wedding parade carried traditional wedding cakes with bamboo poles, following bulls pulling a car in which piles of dowries were placed. The wedding later finished in a small, cozy church with the couples receiving blessings from guests and the audience. Subscribe to The China Post and save 25%. Click here |
