Taichung police bust drug ring, seize amphetamines

TAIPEI, Taiwan -- Taichung police arrested seven suspects yesterday for their alleged involvement in selling narcotics to students. A total of 700 grams of amphetamines was found during the raid.

Police authorities in Taichung arrested two suspects, surnamed Lin and Yang, both teenagers, who were allegedly conducting drug deals in a parking lot. A hundred grams of amphetamines was found in their possession.

Authorities also arrested the alleged mastermind of the drug-dealing ring, a man surnamed Chen, and other suspects. Another 600 grams of amphetamines was found in Chen's car, the Taichung Police Department said.

The police said Chen and the other alleged drug dealers recruited students, drop-outs, and teenagers to join the ring and sell drugs.

Members regularly used smartphones to contact each other, and business was so good that they could operate around the clock. Many students and teenagers were clients of the gang, the police said.
