Taichung Mayor Jason Hu says he has no intention to leave city

The China Post news staff--Taichung City Mayor Jason Hu (胡志強) yesterday asserted that he doesn't plan to leave Taichung and that he is determined to better his city.

The mayor added that he expects Premier Sean Chen to likewise do his best in his capacity as head of the Cabinet. When asked about the decreasing level of public support indicated in various polls, Hu said that the government needs to do a good job before the numbers will increase; if the government is inefficient, polls will continue to remain negative. Hu went on to say that he hopes the premier will do his utmost on behalf of the Executive Yuan, and that he hopes public opinion will reflect the premier's efforts in return.

He reasserted his determination to stay in Taichung City, adding that nothing weighs on his mind more than the development of his city.

With regard to the recent controversy over retirement benefits of military personnel and public servants, Hu said that the central government is responsible for the policy, and that he will respect its decisions. He added that the central government is currently discussing possible reforms, and that his local government will act according to the central government's decision.
