There have been multiple cases of people committing suicide due to pressure from work, family, relationships or for financial reasons, with some even dragging their children along with them, the Health Bureau said. To prevent these cases from increasing, the Taichung Health Bureau decided to add two more counseling stations to the existing eight around the city.
The Taichung Health Bureau received a total of 2,474 reports of suicidal thoughts in 2011, 701 of which were from people in their 30s, 547 were those in their 40s, and 428 people were in their 50s. The most dominant causes of suicidal thoughts are psychological disorders, such as depression and schizophrenia, while the inability to locate a job, having unstable income and having to undergo marital problems also are problematic for many.
Those who are emotionally stressed, or require any sort of help, should call 0800-788955, or dial (04) 25155148 for professional support, the Taichung City Government reminded.
