Unsuspecting civilians who saw him even mistook the gas station to be self-serviced. He got to 15 liters before quickly putting the dispenser back, pretending to have just arrived when the female attendant came back. He then calmly asked and paid for 20 liters of gas when the attendant came back. Gloating inside, Du drove off with 35 liters of gas while only paying for 20 liters. The attendant reported the incident to the police after checking the surveillance system when she found an extra receipt for 15 liters of gas. Du lied and said that he thought the two charges would be combined. He later admitted to his actions when police brought out the surveillance footage. “The attendant thought he had just arrived, so she only charged him for the 20 liters,” Chen Zuo-Hao, Police Chief of Lifen, Wurih said.
