Taichung offers homeless people shelter during Lunar New Year

TAICHUNG, Taiwan -- Three shelters for the homeless will be set up during the Chinese New Year holiday, a Taichung City official said yesterday.

Chang Kuo-hui, head of the city's Department of Social Affairs — which is organizing the venture in conjunction with borough and district offices — said that life may be more difficult for the homeless who are not able to have reunion with their family as there are fewer places to stay during the Spring Festival.

They have arranged three locations, where sanitary fittings, hot food, and overnight shelters will be provided, Chang said. These places include: Taichung City Caring Center for the Homeless (bathroom fittings for males only), Jen-an Foundation, and the Samaritan Female Caring Association (females only).

Staff will offer special services for people in need from today to 8:00 a.m. on Feb. 22.
