Loan shark ring arrested in Taichung

TAICHUNG, Taiwan -- Two members of a loan shark ring were busted after police fired ten shots at their car in Taichung County yesterday.

A Taichung County man, surnamed Lin, reported the case to police as he was forced to pay an exorbitantly high interest on his loan. Lin borrowed NT$500,000 from the illegal money lending ring and was asked to pay the exorbitant interest after Lin had already paid back NT$580,000 to the ring.

Lin was then forced to turn to the police for help. After receiving information from Lin, police managed to arrest two suspects while they were threatening Lin into signing another promissory note. Police also found more than NT$600,000 in cash from the suspects, who were later handed over to prosecutors.
