Bicycle thief arrested after 1000km trip around Taiwan

TAICHUNG, Taiwan -- A thief who was praying for deities' blessings for his job hunt was arrested in front of a temple in Taichung on Tuesday.

The man, surnamed Hsieh, also prayed for a job in a temple in Yilan more than one month ago. He then started his adventure with a bike he stole outside of the temple.

Hsieh traveled to Hualien, Taitung, Pingtung, Kaohsiung and ended up in Taichung. He had ridden an estimated 1,000km, said the police.

He was arrested near a temple he had just visited in Fengyuan, Taichung County. A police officer noticed Hsieh and found it suspicious that he was riding a lady's bicycle, said a local media outlet.

He got the inspiration for traveling around the island from a movie, said Hsieh.

Hoping to find a job as soon as possible, Hsieh prayed in a temple in every place he visited, according to TVBS.

He continued his journey even when Typhoon Parma hit Taiwan.

Although he was arrested, Hsieh was grateful for all the help he received during his travels along the island.
