Air gun bank robber walks away with NT$43,000

TAICHUNG, Taiwan -- A bank in Taichung City was robbed at "gun" point yesterday, authorities said.

According to the Taichung City police, the robber walked away from a Yuanta Bank in Chung Kong Road with about NT$43,000 of cash after slightly injuring a guard with his air gun.

The man, clad in helmet, mask and groves, walked into the bank at noon, waving an air gun and a gas spring gun. The robber put the gas spring gun on the counter, jumped over it and started collecting money into a pre-prepared bag,

As the robber was jumping back over the counter and got ready to leave, a bank guard stopped him with his baton. The robber responded by firing his air gun at the guard, injuring him in the head and shoulder with the gun's plastic projectiles before fleeing the scene. The robber left his gas spring gun and some scattered cash to rush to his scooter and make his escape.

The guard, who was sent to a nearby hospital, sustained only minor cuts and scrapes in the forehead and shoulder blade.
