Minister Liao visits family of officer killed on duty

TAIPEI, Taiwan -- Interior Minister Liao Liao-yi yesterday visited the family of a police officer who had been killed in an accident while on duty last week in Taichung County.

On behalf of Premier Liu Chao-shiaun, Liao gave NT$100,000 in consolation money to the family of the officer Chen Chi-cheng, aged 36. He was killed in a car accident while carrying out a crackdown on violations by dump trucks in Shihkang Township of the central county on the night of June 24.

Chen, who had been in the police force for 16 years, is survived by his wife and three sons.
