Production company fined for burning piano

The officials said the production company doused the piano with gasoline at the Gaomei Wildlife Protected Area and set it on fire, sending pollution into the air in violation of the Air Pollution Control Act.

An environmental protection group later reported the case to the Taichung county authorities.

At issue is the singer’s video of his new song “Collection,” filmed May 29. Hsiao sings and plays guitar by the seaside at Gaomei Wildlife Protected Area in the video, which ends with the piano being set aflame.

Taichung agricultural officials are still assessing whether the act also violated the Wildlife Conservation Law.

Hsiao said he had left the set by the time the company burned the piano and that he was unaware the scene had been filmed until he saw the reports. Nonetheless, he immediately offered his apology for the controversy.
