TAICHUNG, Taiwan -- A lottery jackpot winner in the central city of Taichung has become the biggest

donor in Taiwan's lottery history after donating NT$26 million (US$801,085) to two charitable organizations.

According to Taiwan Lottery Co., a subsidiary of Chinatrust Financial Holding Co., the anonymous winner, a 23-year-old office worker, bought 10 sets of numbers Dec. 18 from a lottery store in Taichung and hit a jackpot of NT$320 million.

The lucky man asked Taiwan Lottery President Joy Huang to donate NT$25 million to the "Light Up the Fire of Life" fund-raising campaign and NT$1 million to the Children Charity Association on his behalf. He also asked Huang to give NT$60,000 to the owner of the lottery stand that sold him the winning ticket.

Huang disclosed that when he presented the NT$60,000 to Lin Sung-bo, owner of the lottery stand, Lin -- a regular donor to charities himself -- told him that it would be more meaningful to use the money to help less-privileged children than putting the money into his own pocket.

According to Huang, instead of receiving the money, Lin added NT$40,000 of his own money to the gift and asked Huang to give the NT$100,000 to the Taichung Family Assistance Center.
