Horse accident injures motorcyclist; animal dies

PINGTUNG, Taiwan -- A vineyard owner in Pingtung was recently charged with battery and negligence after his runaway horse injured a passing motorcyclist in a road accident, local media reported yesterday.

Pan Shi-wei, 34, suffered a comminuted fracture to his right collar bone, and fractured a left rib, but the miniature horse was killed at the scene after the collision catapulted the animal into the air, said the Apple Daily News.

The horse landed seven feet away from the vehicle, said the report.

According to the vineyard owner Shi Jia-hsiang, 57, who is a professionally-trained equestrian, he had purchased several ponies to provide entertainment on the premises.

Shi has had to cope with a string of misfortune that began with his mother illness and death, followed by the horse accident coupled with being charged by the prosecutor, the report noted.
