Old man rescued from the ocean in Pingtung

PINGTUNG, Taiwan -- The coast guard stationed at Yenpu Township in Pingtung County spotted the body of an old man floating in the ocean yesterday morning and rescued him immediately. The man had no heartbeat when he was rescued, but was rescusitated by the emergency services. He was in critical condition and remained in the hospital.

After coast guard officers spotted the eighty-one year-old surnamed Chiang floating in the ocean, they immediately notified the Sinyuan fire brigade. Chiang was taken to the Fooyin University Hospital.

It is unclear why Chiang was in the water. No witnesses were found.
