modifying and converting weapons in an underground arsenal, officials from the southern Taiwan operation of the Coast Guard Administration (CGA) reported yesterday. In the raid on the arms cache, CGA inspectors found six converted handguns, including two rarely seen lighter sized pistols that looked more like business card cases.
Acting on a tip-off, the CGA inspectors raided an apartment in Pingtung City Wednesday afternoon after obtaining search warrants from the Pingtung District Court.
They arrested three men, surnamed Hsu, Kuo and Wei, and confiscated six modified guns, ammunition and some narcotics, including amphetamine, ketamine and FM2.
According to the inspectors, the ringleader Hsu is known in Southern Taiwan by the name “Ah-ann” and as one of the major “wholesalers” of modified weapons.
“Ah-ann, “ notorious for converting of guns of all types and distributing his “products” in the southern cities and counties of Chiayi, Tainan, Kaohsiung and Pingtung, has also been around these areas, posing as a journalist, the inspectors said.
The three suspects have been handed over to the Pingtung Prosecutors Office for further questioning.
