KENTING, Taiwan -- Local entertainer Hong Chi-teh was released yesterday afternoon on a bail of NT$1

00,000 after being questioned over his drunk driving accident that lead to the death of a 59-year-old housewife, surnamed, Lu.

Hong, 33, was out after celebrating with friends when he sideswiped the victim's motorcycle in the Kenting area, Pingtung County early yesterday morning, while driving under the influence (D.U.I.).

A breath test showed Huang's blood alcohol content to be 1.28 milligrams of alcohol per liter of blood.

The victim was pronounced dead on her arrival at the hospital.

"I am sorry," he said to the victim's family after being released by the police.

He further promised to bear the entire responsibility for the accident, as he knelt down in front of the victim's residence.

"What do you mean by 'sorry'?" replied the victim's family, adding that it was too late for any excuses.

"Bring our mother back, bring our mother back," they added.

Hong may possibly face a civil lawsuit for drunk driving, but he may also face charges of involuntary manslaughter and offense against public safety because his blood alcohol content was 1.28 mg per liter, far above the legal limit of 0.55 mg.

According to Taiwan's Criminal Code, he will be subject to a maximum of two years in prison, and a maximum fine of just NT$60,000 (US$1,810).

Chinese-language media reported that Hong usually spends Chinese New Year in Kenting as he owns a restaurant in the neighborhood.

In early 2007, he and five other entertainers were summoned by Banciao District Prosecutors' Office to undergo a drug screening, after he tested positive for various drugs.

After denying charges at first, he admitted in an emotional TV interview to smoking marijuana on a regularly basis but promised to quit.

Hung eventually joined a drug rehabilitation program to avoid drug offense charges that same year.
