Taiwan firms encouraged to prevent China piracy

KAOHSIUNG -- The Kinmen County Government advised Taiwanese firms yesterday to register their trademarks with Chinese authorities to prevent piracy when bringing products to the Chinese market.

Speaking at an event to reward exemplary local businesses, Kinmen Economic Affairs Department Director-General Weng Tzu-pao cited the example of Kinmen Kaoliang Liquor Inc., which has registered trademarks for two of its flagship projects in the Chinese city of Xiamen, where it has offices and outlet stores.

Officials from the Chinese province of Fujian will be visiting the islands of Kinmen to give a briefing on trademark registration in China.
