BERLIN--The outlying Taiwanese archipelago of Penghu officially obtained its certificate of membership in the Most Beautiful Bays in the World Club Friday.
The certificate was presented to Penghu Magistrate Wang Chien-fa by Galip Gur, president of the club, at the International Tourism fair in Berlin.
"This (joining the club) is one of the most important steps by Penghu to come out onto the world stage," Wang said at the ceremony.
The club, founded in 1997, is a UNESCO-sponsored nongovernmental organization dedicated to promoting the preservation and sustainable management of coastal areas.
It is currently comprised of some 37 bays spread across 28 countries and territories across the globe, including San Francisco Bay, China's Qingdao Bay, Vietnam's Halong Bay and Mont Saint-Michel in France.
Penghu was formally inducted into the club in 2013 after its application was approved in November 2012.
