Wang Chien-shien urges Matsu to vote against gambling

The China Post news staff--Control Yuan President Wang Chien-shien (王建煊) stated yesterday that if the referendum conducted in Matsu on Saturday, July 7 supports the building of a local casino resort, it would cease to be a pure place and create a disaster for its people as well as their offspring. He urged people in Matsu to be as perspicacious as people in Penghu to vote down the deal to build a casino resort.

Gambling is harmful for people, stated Wang. He saw many pawn shops around casinos in Macau for people losing in gambling to exchange money to gamble again. Those who lost everything in gambling might end up jumping from the roof of casinos to kill themselves. People with speculative ideas might get nothing in return in casinos.

According to Wang, some people who claim to have deep affection for Taiwan spare no effort trying to open a door to establish a casino resort here. These people passed the law for the development of outlying islands, which provides a low threshold for referendum on outlying islands to pass.

Despite all these efforts, the referendum to build a casino resort in Penghu still failed. Wang hoped the same thing could happen in Matsu.

Refuting the argument that a casino resort can boost employment, Wang said increased employment comes at too high a cost.

As for the long-hoped-for improvement of transportation, Wang said the government should take the initiative.

An alternative would be for Matsu to develop its tourism in other ways, said Wang. As the number of people traveling through Matsu increases, the demand for transportation would rise and improvement would be under way.

Legislator Chen Hsuen-sheng (陳雪生) stated that the government has not given the outlying island enough resources. He pessimistically estimated that the referendum is likely to endorse the building of a casino resort.

Opening a casino beach resort hotel can cause misery and tragedy. ABSOLUTELY RIGHT.
Opening a casino beach resort hotel can also attract more tourist and the revenues can be generated from the gaming facility, RIGHT?

But even without building and operating the casino beach resort hotel, the gambler still gamble away anyway in private houses or underground so what’s the difference. RIGHT?

The only solution is to build the hotel casino resort to attract more tourist and promote our tourism industry. BUT only those with the FOREIGN PASSPORT HOLDER are allowed to enter and play INSIDE the casino facility.

Just a suggestion as a frequent traveler with in mind business with pleasure. NOT with Demon Mentality.
