Updated Saturday, November 14, 2009 11:33 am TWN, The China Post news staff 'Phantom voter' suspects are rounded up in KinmenOf the 80 suspects, 12 were believed to be middlemen who helped phantom voters re-register their residency, the prosecutors said. Some of the suspects confessed that they had moved in order to support specific candidates, and they did not actually live in the places of their household registrations. The prosecutors said they will also try to identify those pulling the strings behind the scene as well candidates that might have been involved. Kinmen, along with most other areas in Taiwan, will elect their county magistrates, city mayors, township and village chiefs, and members of local parliaments and representative bodies. The Kinmen District Prosecutors Office started screening all suspect phantom voters in June, coming up with a list of 3,215 targets. Phantom voters refer to people who register their residencies in order to become eligible for voting in an area that they do not actually live in.
