Updated Wednesday, February 10, 2010 9:42 am TWN, The China Post news staff VAC to review admission fee at ChingjingLawmaker Ma Wen-chun of the ruling Kuomintang held a press conference in the morning to blast the steep rise of ticket price to NT$250 from NT$100. Ma said the move has caused a steep fall in the number of home stay tourists booking the bed and breakfast facilities around the popular farm owned by the VAC and located at the Jenai Township of Nantou County in central Taiwan. An official at the Cabinet-level VAC explained that the upward adjustment in admission fee was to cover the extra costs for visitors to see a host of additional programs, including the presentation of an equestrian team from Kazakhstan and other performances related to animals, The combination of admission fee with performance tickets was made at the suggestion from visitors who said it would save time for them to buy one single set of tickets instead of having to queue up to purchase several tickets separately, he said. But Legislator Ma said bundling the prices is a disadvantage to many tourists who choose not to, or simply have no time to see the extra performances. The VAC official stressed that the farm will review the pricing structure and may return to the original practice before the arrival of the Chinese Lunar New Year holidays to eliminate the controversy and misunderstanding. The Cingjing Veterans Farm, opened to the public in 1961, was first cultivated by retired servicemen and their dependents under the VAC guidance. The farm produces a wide variety of fruits, including peaches, pears, plums, kiwi fruit, and high land vegetables. Other major facilities in the farm include the Tourist Center, the Green Green Grasslands, the Small Swiss Garden, the Recreation Center for visitors, the Shou-Shan (Mt. Longevity) Park, the Guest House and the Livestock Nurturing Center. Subscribe to The China Post and save 25%. Click here |
