Man saves fellow passengers in bus scare

NANTOU, Taiwan -- A bus driver collapsed while the vehicle was moving at 80 kph on the expressway. Luckily for the people in the bus and other drivers on the road, a passenger stepped in to save the day.

Lin Kuan-liang, the 54-year-old driver of a bus going from Nantou to Taichung, suffered from a stroke and fainted on his seat Tuesday night while driving northbound on the No.3 Expressway near the 213 km mark.

When the bus began to move from side to side, Chang Seng, a passenger with 15 years of bus-driving experience, approached Lin to ask if there was anything wrong with the bus.

Instead, Chang found the driver unconscious; his hands were still grasping the wheel and his foot remained on the accelerator.

Knowing the seriousness of the condition, Chang sprung to action and held the wheel steady with one hand while pulling Lin's leg away from the gas pedal with another. Then he turned off the engine before reaching for the brakes. In the end Chang managed to pull the bus over to the curb.

With the help of the other two passengers in the bus, Chang moved Lin out of the bus and called firefighters for help. Lin was rushed to the hospital where he was found to be in grave condition.
