The accident led to the death of Hong Hsiu. The incident happened two years ago on May 24 at around 6 p.m., when Hong’s husband, Liu Hejang, was taking Hong home on his scooter. According to court records, the pig suddenly dashed out in front of the scooter, leaving Liu no time to react. Liu hit the pig and the scooter fell on the ground. Following the collision, Hong sustained head injuries, which reportedly caused her headaches at first, but later turned more serious and five days later caused her death due to internal bleeding. Li told Apple Daily that she would appeal the court order. She said the scooter never hit the pig nor did the scooter fall to the ground, and she even gave the elderly couple NT$800 to go see a doctor “as a goodwill gesture.” Li said to prove her pig was never hit by the scooter, she even had it checked for injuries. No injuries were found in either of the two pet pigs she had at the time, she said. The court did not buy Li’s story, and wondered why Li gave the couple money if what she said was true and the scooter never hit her pig. The court also said that the helmet that Hong was wearing at the time showed a bloodstain on the right side of the head, which indicates that Hong did in fact sustain injuries to her head.
