25 injured due to Miaoli tourist coach overturning in mountains

The police have been investigating whether the transport mishap was caused by mechanical breakdown or human error on the part of the driver.
More than 80 senior residents from Chutung of Hsinchu County took two buses with a plan to visit the Jiuhua Buddhist Temple in Tongluo of Miaoli.
For reasons unknown, the first bus suddenly reversed on a mountain road before tipping over. It blocked traffic for several hours.
In addition to the 25 victims, the bus driver, surnamed Shi, was severely burned by hot water after a liquid container poured out the high-temperature drinking water.
All of the injured passengers were rushed to hospitals in Miaoli and neighboring Taichung City.
One 82-year-old male passenger was revived by a nurse seated in the second bus before being taken to the hospital. He remained in a stable condition after treatment.
Police officers and firefighters investigating the incident said an initial probe showed that the bus suddenly lost its power and tipped over.
They said they will question the driver for possible explanations after his condition improves following emergency medical treatment at hospital.
