Updated Saturday, November 21, 2009 11:56 am TWN, The China Post news staff Two suspects detained on bribery allegationChen Ching-yun, owner of a company that sells funeral urns, is accused of bribing voters to support his cousin, Miaoli County Council candidate Chen Fu-hsing. According to prosecutors, Chen Ching-yun made his employee Chang Yun-chia give NT$500 in cash to each qualified voter in exchange for casting a ballot for Chen Fu-hsing. Prosecutors received tips from informants that Chang had distributed some of these funds in Miaoli City. Officials raided several locations Nov. 19, finding a suspicious stash of NT$26,800 and some lists of voter names made by Chang, who told prosecutors she had worked for Chen Ching-yun to distribute bribes. The law enforcement officials also found NT$510 million in Chen Ching-yun's office and another NT$125,000 in his briefcase. Chen denied any involvement in the case and claimed the money was refunds for returned funeral urns. Prosecutors questioned the two suspects and six of Chen Ching-yun's employees, and won court approval to keep Chen and Chang incommunicado on bribery charges.
