Flying iron sheet injures police officer on highway

MIAOLI, Taiwan -- An iron sheet tumbling down National Freeway No. 3 destroyed a patrol car and left a police officer severely injured on Nov. 7.

The 1-meter long iron sheet struck the moving car and hit officer Liang Ming-chih near the Miaoli section of the freeway around noon.

Liang suffered from collapsed lung and rib fracture and was receiving intensive medical care.

Police speculate the iron piece fell from a truck, said Liu Sung-yi, an officer for the National Highway Police Bureau.

Liu added that they had started the investigation.
