Donations pour in for Kaohsiung disaster relief

Donations from companies and individuals around Taiwan are pouring in to help with post-disaster relief efforts after a series of gas explosions in Kaohsiung late Thursday.

As of press time, 26 people were confirmed to have died in the worst accident of its kind in Taiwan's history, with 266 others reported injured and 2 missing.

Local enterprises donated millions of Taiwan dollars, including CTBC Holding (中信金控), Fubon Bank (富邦銀行), Pxmart (全聯社), Yulon Motor (裕隆), Formosa Plastics Group (台塑), one of Taiwan's leading conglomerates, Advanced Semiconductor Engineering Inc. (日月光), a leading integrated circuit packaging and testing services provider, Hon Hai Group (鴻海), the world's largest contract electronics maker, electronics conglomerate Kinpo Group (金寶) and computer maker Acer Inc. (宏碁)

CTBC Holding Chairman Yen Wen-long (顏文隆) said that in addition to the NT$10 million of donation, the financial group will also consider mortgage payment deferment and other favorable treatments for victims in the disaster.

As of press time, private companies and individuals have pledged over NT$500 million in donation to the Kaohsiung disaster relief efforts.
