Multiple gas explosions rock Kaohsiung streets

Kaohsiung -- Gas leaks in the sewage system of Kaohsiung's Cianjhen District led to multiple explosions late Thursday

night, injuring several people and overturning cars, according to fire department of the southern municipality.

Fire fighters, including those from nearby Tainan City, have rushed to the scene, and Kaohsiung Mayor Chen Chu was urging people to leave the dangerous spots.

Witnesses said the gas leaks which began at around 9:00 p.m. formed white fog while fire was lighted up, leading to big explosions

on several streets.

A witness surnamed Liu said at first he thought some "poisonous gas" had leaked from the old railway and a construction site of

Kaohsiung's light rapid transit system.

"I saw fire spurting, ripping off some covers of ditches. It was terrifying," he said.

The explosions on Kaisuan Road and Ersheng Road rocked Cianjhen, Lingya, Siaogang and Cianjin districts.

Straight speaking, all of Taiwan's governments never care what is "Public Security", thus Taiwan always has had more tragedies.

I wish President Ma has a good way with his strong will to care about all Public Securities not only in public traffics but also in public communities/lives.

If the underground pipelines were durable quality with very strict and periodic inspection on work and do an urgent treatment in time, this big tragedy could be avoided.

This was bound to happen in Taiwan. The simple fact is Taiwanese infrastructure is crumbling and has not been updated for the 21st century. Also Taiwanese bureaucrats are too concerned with face and Guanxi to give a damn about public works. Well at least the Taiwanese only have themselves to blame on this one, can't blame the Waiguoren from Fili or Big nose countries. This rests on the backs of the old Wang type directors of gas companies who want everyone to kow tow to them.
