Australian teacher arrested for assault, appears unregretful

TAIPEI, Taiwan -- An Australia English-language teacher was arrested for assaulting a local college student who was taking a walk with his girlfriend in Kaohsiung.

The incident occurred when the student, surnamed Shi, was taking a walk with his girlfriend in one of Kaohisung's commercial district last Sunday. Apparently, Shi and the foreigner bumped into each other on the street and got into a quarrel. The foreigner reportedly pushed Shi onto the ground and started punching him, later tossing Shi's cellphone onto the road.

The police used surveillance cameras to track down and arrest the foreigner. During questioning, the man said that he had lost his temper while under the influence of alcohol. Apparently, he also confessed to having a drinking habit.

Investigators later found that the foreigner's visa had expired eight months ago, and has since been residing in Taiwan illegally. The man may be soon deported to his home country.

The Australian didn't appear to regret his actions, as he was seen making a V sign at cameramen.
