American pastor shoots two cats

KAOHSIUNG, Taiwan -- An American pastor from the Kaohsiung City Assemblies of God Church allegedly shot two cats with a BB gun, killing one cat dead and leaving the other paralyzed. When confronted by a volunteer who was investigating the case, he admitted the crime. The conversation was recorded and was posted on the Internet. More than 60,000 people blasted his action on the website.

A woman found the two injured six-month-old cats on the street last Wednesday and took them to a nearby vet. One cat was shot on the abdomen. The bullet penetrated its intestines and kidney. It did not survive the serious internal bleeding. The other cat was shot in the spine. It was paralyzed and will only be able crawl with its forelegs for the rest of its life.

Volunteers from the Animal Rescue Team Taiwan suspected it was pastor John Sisk who shot the cats, as he was often seen chasing the cats away. They questioned him at his residence. He refused to respond at first; but later admitted that he shot the cats because the cats ate his pet fish and attacked his bird several times. He said he had “apparently hurt the cats”, but he “didn't do it intentionally”.

The police who had questioned Sisk later on said Sisk testified that he had prayed with his wife many times for the cats to leave, but the situation did not improve. So he shot the two cats with his 40 cm BB gun, attempting to scare them away. But he said he did not hurt or kill the cats.

The head of Taiwan's Assemblies of God said Sisk was very remorseful about the incident. He would face any legal consequences. Assemblies of God will pay for the medical costs of the cats.

Kaohsiung City Animal Protection Office said shooting animals is against the Animal Protection Act and punishable by a maximum of one year imprisonment and NT$1 million fine.

So, that is how "Christian" pastors treat innocent kittens (infant living beings)? People come to this country and INFLICT some western mythology on what was already a PERFECTLY FINE religion (Buddhism teaches to NOT HARM ANY LIVING BEING).
I am a white person from USA, who is also a a very many years BUDDHIST.
I hope that Taiwan government charges this "kitten killer" to the fullest extent in the law for such an offense (1 year in prison & NT$ 1 million), then deport him back to USA.
He can ask his god (in their view, creator of ALL living beings) how he approves of this "pastor" murdering innocent kittens.
Hey, "pastor", take your gun-toting murderous heart back to USA! Don't try to damage THIS wonderful country!
My you take rebirth as a mouse in a place over-run with cats. Karma!

Shame! Shame! Shame on him! Before he is (HOPEFULLY) deported, I hope he is made to serve one year in prison here, and pay NT$1,000,000.
I am an American living in Taiwan, and I am DISGUSTED by his act. Those cats ARE TAIWANESE, and that "pastor" is a cruel and heartless interloper. How dare he show a bad face to this wonderful country that is very welcoming and friendly to Americans?
What would your sermon say that "god" would think of your behavior, pastor?
"Even the devil can quote the bible." And often does.
March 13, 2010    NYIMAKONCHOG@
What sort of "medical costs" does the "church" plan to pay for the DEAD kitten? I am certain that "assemblies of god" is probably shocked by the BAD REPUTATION that the "pastor"'s heartless act of killing has created. However, let's look at the facts.... There is a phrase, "Practice what you preach." Another hypocritical "Christian" invading a country, doing one thing, while saying another. Look at HISTORY.
Did you see how SMUG the "pastor" looked on TV news. An evil little grin on his face. Most likely thinking, "Whatever." He's 'remorseful" that he got in trouble.
Dude, PROTECT your pets if you think THAT's the issue. Oh, and LEAVE TAIWAN AFTER YOU HAVE PAID YOUR DEBT TO THOSE CATS (ie. Jail, fine, deportation). Amen!
March 14, 2010    NINGKANGZHOU@
As an American living in Taiwan, I want to say that I hope that the sick-minded, pompous, animal-murdering, interloping, creep and so-called "pastor", is made to serve the very maximum penalty. And if that is one year in a Taiwanese prison, plus NT$ one million, followed by immediate deportation, then so-be-it! And good ridden!
Go away, kitten-killing "Christian". Do you think your god is happy with your behavior? Don't bring your sick-minded, murderous, animal-torturing way to this wonderful country!
March 14, 2010    VAJRAKONCHOGLING@
Uhhhhhh.... "Thou shall not kill", I do think is one of "The Ten Commandments" in "the pastor's" religion. Oh, actually, it is the FIRST of the ten. Perhaps he can catch up on his studies while he is spending a year in prison. He will be spending the year in prison, plus NT$ one million fine, then being immediately deported, RIGHT?!?
Where are comments that must have been posted, at?

Why do so many social misfits make their way to Taiwan? The most despicable thing about this guy is that he actually purports to be a Christian; obviously just one more pervert using the Church as a cover for his ugly soul. Perhaps he'll have the good manners to LEAVE before prosecuted and kicked out.

FYI: The FIRST commandment is "Do not have any other gods before [God]" (Exodus 20:3). "Thou shall not kill" is actually the sixth. I would hope that anyone else who wishes to comment here would at least have the decency of getting their facts straight. The Bible also talks about removing the plank from our own eye so that we can see clearly enough to get the speck out of someone else's.

How many John Sisk presently are now in Taiwan? Are those John Sisk really preaching the words of god or those John Sisk are spying for their intelligent service agency? What next will those John Sisk do in the future against our peaceful island? Of course. Gathering our sensitive military secret's and mapping up all our beautiful island just like the Japanese spy man doing prior for their invasion. And the "EAGLE EYE" of John Sisk was now planted in Taiwan. Huh!!!

Interesting that this topic has evoked such strong reactions condemning the pastor of his evil deeds...

... yet on other topics such as death penalty, that Taiwanese citizens reveal their bloodthirsty side and call for revenge killings.

Hmm.

DORJEDAKINI, VAJRAKONCHOGLING, & NYIMAKONCHOG...all the same person. I thinks so.

Elumpen...Social misfits are in all Countries, not just Taiwan. Not to mention Taiwan has its own share of home-bread social misfits that torture and kill animals as well.

Matt_Smucker...Hallelujah

Jolice...Can you say "Paranoia"

Is John Sisk an idiot...YES, is he a real pastor...Doubtful. Should he be disciplined by law...YES.

Taiwanese Society needs to push for animal protection rights. The way animals are treated in this Country is the worst I've seen out of living in 5 different Countries. Animal cruelty happens more than just one story a month. This guy will probably get a slap on the wrist and that's it.

Poor kitties.

All the animals are our friends. Take good care of them if we really hope them can be present in the future generations.

Dude, PLEEEEAAAAASSSSEEEEEE! Did you miss the POINT enough?!? That is not even my religion, and yet I am QUITE SURE that I PRACTICE THAT much better than that false pastor. #1, #6, WHATEVER!
How's that old jingle go....? "With a name like Smucker's, it's got to be good?" With a name like "sisk", that jerk has got to be SICK (apparently). He is an arrogant (alleged) KITTEN-KILLER, Matt!
And your quote regarding "planks" and "specks" makes NO sense at all. Though, Lao Tsu said, rightfully, that a grain of sand in the eye can hide a mountain. Now, THAT makes sense!
By the way... you say "facts", yet you are quoting the bible?!?!?!?! That's RICH! hahahahahahahaha! And Earth is 6,000 years old, huh? And women are the product of a man's rib and a handful of mud? Etc., etc., etc. LOL!!!!!! How come the "good reverend's" repeated prayers to "make the kittens go away" didn't work, I WONDER!
Matt, YOU are the one with the vision obscured by a plank or something, I'd say.
You shouldn't start a message with "FYI". It's very disrespectful. You might, then, receive the same in kind.

So what's your view on kitten killing? And prayers that DON'T GET ANSWERED? And "pastors" killing small baby animals, Matt?
Don't you think that "not killing" would be a better FIRST "commandment" than being # 6? In Buddhism, not killing nor harming living beings is the FIRST.
March 17, 2010    twix2006@
I don't agree with his actions, but might I remind you all that just because a person is a Christian (or pastor for the matter) doesn't make the person perfect. The Bible teaches that ALL people are sinners and make mistakes (Romans 3:23); the difference is that as a Christian, you recognize this about yourself and agree with God when He says the sin in your life is keeping you from knowing Him and that Jesus died for your sins SO that you can know God. Christians and pastors alike still make poor decisions at times and clearly he didn't think this one through.
March 17, 2010    elumpen@
twix, his forgiveness is between himself and God, but we're talking about more mundane earthly matters: when you're in a foreign country (or your own, for that matter) you're expected not to behave like a psycho ... as for "Didn't think it through?" ... hell's bells, man, if he can't even figure out that shooting an (unprotected) person/animal with a BB gun is likely to cause serious injury then he doesn't even deserve a job cleaning toilets, let alone leading his flock. And while we're on the subject, why does he, or anyone else, have a BB gun anyway? These things are pretty much designed specifically for killing small animals, something which very, very few people - and certainly not pastors - need to do. Let's get them out of the stores and then idiots like this can't buy them.
March 17, 2010    ihue71@
If you study history however it was Buddhist who murdered thousands of children for studying English during the Boxer Rebellion. They chopped the children up. What people claim to be is not always an example of teaching that they claim to follow. Personally I love cats, in fact I am a vegetarian. Most Buddhist eat animals at least here in Taiwan they do. Is that the same thing as directly as killing an animal. What is difference from committing murder or hiring a hit man. Also the Bible never says anything about the age of the earth. It begins by saying the earth was already there when the Spirit was over the face of deep. No mention of how long the ocean was there. Also no mention of women being made of mud. No one said the pastor was good which would good why his prayer not answered. I would say he does seem to be very good at problem solving if the cats were able to eat his poor fish. I don't know how someone with such poor decision processing became a pastor. To say it was not intentional is an out right lie because he had to buy that pellet gun with that intent. This pastor will no power to his preaching from now. Yet those who eat pork or any meat for that matter or drink alcohol or get angry causing you to want hurt someone or hate anyone for any reason or be too proud or lust, etc... all are equally bad

Mr. John Sisk: Shame on you!
Is this your calling from God?? -- "Go to Taiwan to kill the poor, hungry and helpless stray cats??"

I come to your country American to adopt poor, hungry stray kitties, care for them, and love them as my own, but you went to my country Taiwan to kill them instead??!!

How could a clergyman treat the life of God's creation so cruelly?
How could a pastor not only disregard and break a country's law, but even go so far to shoot helpless stray cats?
How could you?? They are only hungry and helpless kitties!!
And, how dare you??? !!!

What kind messages are you trying to pass to Taiwan people??
Do you ever study and follow God's words?
Where dose "your" God tell you in the Book, "Go and Shot the poor, hungry and helpless stray cats" ??
It does say, “you, then, who teach others, do you not teach yourself? You who preach against stealing, do you steal?!”

From now on, what are you going to preach people in Taiwan??
God is a vengeful God, and He shall avenge those innocent cats! May God treat you as the way you'd treated those poor and helpless animals!!

Are you a perfect human being, committing NO mistakes?! You're so fast in making judgment. If there is really a re-birth, what do you think you would be? Before you give your judgment, you should look first at yourself in the mirror.

Stray Animals are Really Annoying and Causing Danger

1. In Nantze District, wherein the old apartments are separated by a lane, I was told by someone that there was a dog that howls early in the morning in his owner's house balcony, around 3 am. This happens very frequent that some neighbors are shouting at the dog but the dog and the owner does not seem to care. One of the neighbor has started shooting the dog with a BB gun and it is effective because the dog will stop howling after that somebody shoot at the dog. Eventually, the owner has moved the dog and never they heard the howling again.

The dog may not be hurt but that annoying dog really distract the sleep and rest time of human, will really cause somebody to lost his temper and do an unnecessary action.

2. In Metropolitan Park, there are several stray dogs roaming around. These dogs when they smell food, they will go near to that person. It is very unfortunate that when these dirty dogs go near to small kid with an age of 2 years, the kid will get frightened and cry. This will cause a trauma on the child. It is also possible that the child will get an infection because of the dirty stray dogs in the park. These dogs will not get away if you frighten them by shouting them only. You have to hit them with a stick or a stone so they may run away.

3. In San Ming District, I also saw a Taiwanese throwing a stone on a stray dog because it frightens his grandson. I saw the little boy crying and frightened.

I believe that the problem on stray animals (dogs and cats) is not only John Sisk's problem. There are a lot of stray cats and dogs that are annoying and causing problems to everyone. If anyone will be fined and jailed for protecting their safety and property from these stray dogs and cats, what will be the life then of people of Kaohsiung? Should the life and comfort of the people go first before these stray animals? Should we compromise the safety of our children when these stray dogs go near to them? Should we wait for somebody to get hurt before we can do any action on these stray animals? Is there a law about self-defense against these stray animals to protect the people in Kaohsiung?

Hope the city government of Kaohsiung will also consider protecting the people and properties on from these annoying and a potential danger of stray animals roaming around the city. Impounding the captured stray animals is not sufficient because not all the stray animals are being captured. There should be something more that the government could do.

the.oxml. Your logic is extremely weird, to wit:

1) You are overlooking a vitally important factor, namely, the owner is an olympic-class a-hole. The dog is howling because a) the owner can't be bothered to train it b) the dog is being mistreated in some way and c) dogs (let me guess - it's a Husky, in a 20-ping apartment) shouldn't be locked up in apartments. My suggestion: aim the BB gun at the owner.

2) Let me get this straight: you're suggesting that kids will be permanently traumatized by the sight of a hungry animal? Most kids naturally like animals, and find it amusing to feed them. Kids notice "dirt" a lot less than adults do. It's only when they are brought up (as you presumably have) to fear and despise nature that they react in the manner you describe: it's their parents who did the damage, so don't blame the animal.

3) The kid was probably crying because he just discovered his granddad is an ignoramus. Kids are a lot smarter than you seem to give them credit for. For example, he probably learnt that day that if you don't like somebody or something you should use violence to make it go away.

In 8 years here I have never, ever seen a stray cat or dog attack anyone - and I do walk around a lot. They are usually dreadfully afraid of people (because idiots like granddad injure them). Have you ever been to an emergency ward? Count the number of cases caused by scooter accidents. Now count the number of animal bites. There are no doubts some strays that will attack if you annoy them - because they have learned, from bitter experience, that humans are their enemy.

As for the "life and comfort" of people in Kaohsiung - good grief, man, do you actually live there? Are you deaf and blind? Smell the fumes! Look at the chaos on the roads! Look at the color of the river! Count the fish in it (won't take you long). Sit in a roadside cafe and listen to the NOISE. These are the things that threaten the "safety of our children". Stray animals are way, way down the list.

I agree with you on one point: there are too many poor, wretched stray animals in Taiwan, and a large number of them are ill, maimed, and in pain, and would be better off being caught and humanely killed. The key word here is 'humanely'. As for the rest: they are there because the government can't be bothered to institute a proper animal control policy (TNR, for example) and because people dump their "property" once they grow too big or too boring, or a new model becomes fashionable.

You can't keep nature nailed down, oxml. If you find it's causing trouble it's usually because of something daft that humans are doing. In Sisk's case, I bet if he'd left a bit of food now and then the cat would have left his birds alone and just spent the day napping on his balcony. A napping cat, FYI, is a sight which reminds us that life is for living, and unfortunately, due to your tunnel vision, a pleasure that you will never experience.

The police should get a warrant to search this American pastor John Sisk resident and the Assemblies of God Church whether this American pastor and other pastors have concealed and hidden real high power weaponry to kill people. John Sisk was a real SHARP SHOOTER with a BB gun. All direct HIT in the VITAL PART of the cats.
