Updated Monday, January 4, 2010 2:20 pm TWN, The China Post news staff Seven killed in head-on highway crash in KaohsiungPolice said the accident took place at 2:12 p.m. on a highway in Neimen Township. Seven of the nine people in the van showed no vital signs after being rushed to hospitals. Two other people, including the driver of the van, are still in critical conditions. Ho Shi-hsien, driver of the truck, told police that the van swerved across the double yellow lines on the pavement when he was driving down the slope. Ho, 45, said it was too late for him to stop the truck when the van suddenly hit his vehicle head on. Police said they and prosecutors have started a full investigation into the crash to determine the cause of the accident. They said they will also find out who was at the steering wheel of the van when the accident took place. The victims on the van, all above the age of 50, were from a same village of Yujin Township in Tainan County. They were members of the Iguangdao religion on their way to a religious gathering in Kaohsiung. They have been involved in far too many deadly accidents. |
