CIB cracks sex trade ring in the south

KAOHSIUNG, Taiwan -- Police yesterday cracked down on an alleged prostitution ring, arresting five local men and six Chinese women, local media reported. The local men were suspected of operating underground brothels while the six Chinese women had been working in the country as prostitutes, police said. The Southern Taiwan Crime Fighting Center under the Criminal Investigation Bureau (CIB) said they received information in January that a sex ring had been importing Chinese prostitutes into the country.

The women entered Taiwan via illegal channels, including being in fake marriages with Taiwanese men or holding forged passports, CIB officials said. Officials said they had been working with Kaohsiung's National Immigration Agency and the County's police department in locating the ring members across southern Taiwan.
