“I am already divorced from Teacher Chen, because he has had an affair,” said the geography teacher in a soft voice.

The woman had filed for divorce two days earlier, and wanted to vent her anger at her former husband.

“When I heard of the affair, I first thought there was a mistake,” a student told Chinese-language media that afternoon.

In response to media inquiries, the school principal called for calm, noting that the female teacher had already apologized to him for the incident.

For further precautions, however, the principal added that he has decided to put the microphone in a locked drawer.

“Future announcements will have to be approved in advance,” he said.

In a related story, the Herald Tribune reported Jan.10 on Hu Ziwei, a famous Chinese television personality married to the deputy of state television’s sports news department.

Hu erupted onto the stage during the inauguration of the CCTV — the Chinese state broadcaster — new sports channel, and also unveiled her supposed discovery of her husband’s infidelity to Chinese spectators.
