Dayeh University wins in ROC solar model car race

KAOHSIUNG, Taiwan -- Dayeh University in the central county of Changhua won the championship and the best technology award in a national solar model car race that concluded Sunday in the southern port city of Kaohsiung, a university spokesman said yesterday.
The race event, now in its second year, was organized by the Ministry of Education and attracted 41 teams from 21 local universities and colleges, the spokesman noted.
In each race in the event, two solar model cars competed on a 80-meter, figure-8 track, the spokesman said, adding that each car was required to carry a raw egg, with the penalty for breaking the egg being disqualification.
Twenty teams were able to enter the second round of the event, the spokesman continued.
During the championship race, the model car designed by Dayeh University outpaced its rival designed by Kao Yuan University in the southern county of Kaohsiung by 14 seconds, the spokesman said.
