Yilan suffers serious agricultural loss from Typhoon Parma

ILAN, Taiwan -- Agricultural losses from Typhoon Parma had reached NT$41.12 million (US$1.277 million) as of Monday, according to statistics released by the Council of Agriculture (COA).

The northeastern county of Yilan bore the brunt of the Parma-induced damage, suffering NT$40.409 million in agricultural losses.

Typhoon Parma veered away from Taiwan Oct. 6, leaving one dead and causing flooding in 30 areas in Yilan.

According to COA tallies, crop losses amounted to NT$28.61 million, with green onions the hardest hit. Meanwhile, 22.3 hectares of farmland in Yilan were washed away by floodwaters brought by the typhoon.
