Wife registers candidacy for husband in Yilan

ILAN, Taiwan -- Lu Kuo-hua, magistrate of Yilan seeking reelection, was so busy yesterday that he got his wife to register his candidacy for a second term.

Mrs. Lu visited the Yilan county election commission in the morning to complete the registration for her husband, who was on a field trip to inspect areas flooded by torrential rains.

Typhoon Parma did not directly hit Yilan, but torrential rains lashed Sanhsing and a couple of other low-lying areas in the county. More than 1,200 millimeters of precipitation were registered in the hills overlooking Sanhsing in 24 hours ending 6 a.m. yesterday.

“It was the most opportune day yesterday,” Mrs. Lu said. “My husband insisted that his registration be completed on such an auspicious day,” she told reporters.
