Typhoon Parma did not directly hit Yilan, but torrential rains lashed Sanhsing and a couple of other low-lying areas in the county. More than 1,200 millimeters of precipitation were registered in the hills overlooking Sanhsing in 24 hours ending 6 a.m. yesterday. “It was the most opportune day yesterday,” Mrs. Lu said. “My husband insisted that his registration be completed on such an auspicious day,” she told reporters.
