Lin Hsi-chung, head of the labor department of the Yilan county government, said the 957 job seekers were initially targeted for further talks on a job arrangement. Lin said that the county government plans to host a similar event on Aug. 22, when more enterprises will be invited to offer job opportunities to more job seekers. In light of the growing difficulty in finding jobs, an increasing number of job seekers have lowered their requirement for monthly pay. For instance, a female job seek surnamed Chen said that she used to reject new job offers after being laid off by her former employer, due mainly to the relatively lower monthly pay than her previous job. But this time, Chen decided to find a job first regardless of the size of the monthly pay in order to maintain a basic livelihood. A man surnamed Wu who has a master degree said he has decided to accept a job with a monthly pay of slightly over NT$30,000, so as to accumulate some working experience to pave the way for seeking a higher-paying job in the future.
