Amis Harvest Festival held in East Taiwan

The well-known Amis Harvest Festival will take place from July 9 to August 23, with a series of celebratory activities being held during the month-long period.

This is the most important activity among aborigines living in the east part of the island. It is expected that these aboriginal cultural activities will spark a new wave of tourism in eastern Taiwan.

According to East Coast National Scenic Area Administration, more than 40 aboriginal tribes in the scenic area will hold their annual harvest festivals in the summer time, highlighted by ceremonies, dances and contests. Through the festival activities, aborigines pay their respects and appreciation to their ancestors and God and also pray for a good harvest for the next year.

In line with the harvest festival, Du Lan, Du Li and Chen Ping tribes will hold a tribe educational class through which visitors will get to know more about the Amis tribe's culture, arts, and customs.

Aboriginal villages under the jurisdiction of the East Coast National Scenic Area use three different names for harvest festival activities depending on the region.

These activities are organized by the villages according to their traditions and the activity dates and are therefore subject to change. Visitors should to inquire in advance for up-to-date information.
