Aboriginal people harvest festival to take place in Hualien County

TAIPEI, Taiwan -- Starting on July 18, a three-day mass harvest festival hosted by various aboriginal tribes will be held in Hualien County.

A street dancing carnival will take place on the 18th, while harvest activities will take place on the 19th and 20th. In addition to a number of Taiwan's aboriginal people, up to 11 minority peoples from mainland China will also participate in the joint celebration.

A variety of aboriginal merchandise will also be presented on this special occasion. Handmade crafts, local delicacies, agricultural products, traditional costumes, weaved products, sculptures and others will be showcased to visitors and available for purchase.

The event, sponsored by the Hualien County Government, will also feature an aboriginal cultural and art exhibition, inviting visitors of all age to experience Taiwan's unique aboriginal culture.

Hualien has the highest aboriginal population in Taiwan. It is the first time in six decades for Taiwan to hold such event that celebrates the harvesting activities of many aboriginal people. Up to 32 teams and 800 people will perform, participating in dancing, singing and mass praying.
