School staff mishandles sexting allegation

A Hualien County middle school academic director has come under fire for reportedly facilitating an attack on a 13-year-old male student by the family of a girl he had rejected, all of which occurred in a bizarre group confrontation at their house last Friday night.

On top of a physical attack, the underage victim and his mother, who later arrived at the scene, were forced to sign a NT$200,000 “promissory note” for the emotional distress the son allegedly inflicted on the perpetrator's daughter.

Hualien County police questioned all parties involved, although the most questionable behavior was that of Feng-Lin Junior High School (鳳林國中) Director of Academic Affairs Shen Wen-jun (沈文俊), the now fired faculty member who initiated and enabled the incident.

It is a convoluted case of schoolyard crush gone terribly wrong. According to local media reports, a female student surnamed Huang developed a crush on a fellow classmate, 13-year-old surnamed Chiang who subsequently rejects her after a period of flirtation.

In her distress, Huang allegedly started to self-mutilate, raising concerns within her family. Finding sexual text messages in her phone sent from Chiang, her father mistakenly believed his daughter had been assaulted and reported the incident toPP school authorities, who in this case, happened to be Shen.

Without verifying the claims, Shen dragged the Chiang over to the girl's house, where her parents and several other cousins had gathered. The girl's father, reportedly intoxicated, started shouting and beating the teenaged boy. Soon, three cousins joined in while four others stood around and watched.

Although Shen claimed to have shielded Chiang from the blows initially, he was soon swatted aside. Chiang's mother, who arrived latter and pleaded for her son's return, was subjected to six hours of threats before being forced to sign a NT$200,000 promissory note, after which the mother-and-son were allowed to return home.

Chiang's family reported the incident that night to local police, although their claims were not taken seriously. Only when they sought the help of legislator Yang De-ching did the horrifying confrontation come to light.

Shen was fired for dealing with the incident privately without going through appropriate school protocol. Feng-Lin Junior High School also came under fire for failure to report the case within 24 hours. Formal charges on all parties are pending investigation.

Taiwan...you never cease to amaze me.

What kind of backwards 3rd world behavior is this?

"Chiang's family reported the incident that night to local police, although their claims were not taken seriously."

Abduction by a person under color of authority (Shen), assault, fraud in falsifying legal documents (forced signature under extreme duress), coercion (threats of physical violence), terrorists threats...and the police do nothing.

Once again, Taiwan’s LEOs prove their uselessness.
