Updated Thursday, July 8, 2010 10:15 am TWN, The China Post news staff Hualien and Taitung launch summer carnivals, concertsThe summer carnivals include more than 10 different kinds of activities, such as concerts, aboriginal harvest festivals, cycling tours and cultural art events. To bring in more visitors to the eastern area, the administration has collaborated with the Taiwan Railways Administration to promote package tours involving tourist trains and cycling trips. Seamless transportation services between attractions in the two eastern counties are also available. Sixteen large concerts featuring a summer carnival will be held between July 16 and August 29, during which around 100 artists will be performing on stage, along with fireworks displays, singing contests, photography competitions, cultural handicraft exhibitions and opportunities to taste unique local cuisine. In cooperation with local governments, the administration will also host a dance competition, which offers a NT$1-million prize for the champion. Different international and local musicians will be performing at the Liyu Lake Scenic Area next month. From now until September 30, tourists are qualified to take part in a lucky draw if they collect two stamps from Taitung and Hualien each by shopping at appointed stores. Prizes vary from a digital camera, high-class foldable bikes, Taichung-Hong Kong flight ticket and resort coupons. Winners will be announced on October 15.
