Highways to be closed for Taroko Marathon on Nov. 7

HUALIEN, Taiwan -- A road running event held by Taroko National Park in Hualian will take place November 7, with traffic control regulations coming into effect on sections of the Central Cross-island Highway where the activity happens.

The national park management said that affected sections will include the roadway between the Asia Cement Factory and Tienshang, which is inside the park, Taiwan Provincial Highway No. 8, and will eventually include the south gate of the Chinwen Bridg, starting from 4 a.m. to 2 p.m..

Also, the provincial highway No.9 will be under traffic control regulations starting from 5 a.m. to 2 p.m. including the road stretching between the area north of the Taroko Bridge and the north gate of the Chinwen Bridge.

During the control hours, vehicles other than necessary utility vehicles will not be allowed to enter the above-mentioned sections. Participants and visitors will have to move cars in the parking areas away before 5 a.m.

The 2009 Taroko Marathon, hosted by Taroka National Park in Eastern Taiwan, is in its tenth consecutive year. This year an estimated 10,000 people will participate in the event.
