The victim, a 45-year-old male, had difficulty breathing and a poor appetite on Sept. 27 and was given the antiviral drug Tamiflu after he tested positive for the novel flu virus, said the Hualien County Health Bureau. Treatment with medication did not seem to alleviate his symptoms and the man died of the disease on Oct. 1, health officials were cited as saying. He had already been suffering from pre-existing conditions such as diabetes, hypertension, arthritis and tuberculosis, wrote a Central News Agency report. Meanwhile, another three hospitalized A(H1N1) cases were confirmed yesterday, bringing the total to 314, according to the Central Epidemic Command Center (CECC).
