Hualien man mysteriously stabbed to death

HUALIEN, Taiwan -- Hualien City police are currently investigating the mysterious stabbing of a man found dead yesterday near a residential carport on Guominsan Road.

The man had been stabbed four times in the head, neck and chest, while sitting outside the apartment building’s carport, police said.

A bloody fruit knife was found beside the body by police at the scene.

However, police say that although these facts seem apparent, they have not been able to determine whether this is a case of murder or suicide, with no witnesses or reports of noises or a scuffle being heard outside the building.

The man’s identity also remains unknown, as no documents were found on the body.

Police said that besides the suspicious entry wound coming up through the back of the man’s head and into his brain, the other wounds fit the profile of typical target points for people attempting to commit suicide with a knife.

Another man, who said he had travelled from Pingtung and was sleeping in his car at the suspected time of the victim’s death, said although he was roughly ten meters from the scene, he did not hear cries or other similar sounds.
