TAIPEI, Taiwan -- A man was arrested yesterday in connection with the killing of the father of a woman who the suspect claimed was his ex-girlfriend, police in Hsinchu said.
The suspect, surnamed Lee, allegedly killed the man, surnamed Hung, 55, with two knives near the victim's home, police said.
Lee told police that he and Hung's daughter were schoolmates and they had been dating for more than a year.
Police said they were still verifying his claims about the relationships and had yet to determine the motives behind the killing.
Hung's family said they did not know the suspect; and the daughter, who now works in Macau, was not in Taiwan. The victim was a fisherman.
Lee's father was cited by police as saying that his son has received psychiatric treatment.
According to police, Lee, who lives in Taichung, went to Hsinchu early in the morning to wait for the "ex-girlfriend" on the streets near the victim's home. He met the senior Hung at about 5 a.m. and later stabbed him.
