Court fines woman NT$500,000 for having affair with ex-professor

HSINCHU, Taiwan -- A court vetted a NT$500,000 fine to a woman for having an affair with an associated professor, according to the Apple Daily News.

The woman, a graduate student surnamed Hung from the National Tsing Hua University, had sex with Niu Hui-chih in 2006 and gave birth to his child. Both of them were married at the time.

Hung was Niu's student and assistant. She said that Niu had used initially suggestive words to persuade her to have a relationship but she rejected him. In 2006, he sent more than 70 love e-mails to Huang. She eventually reluctantly agreed to go out with him.

After dating for a time, they broke up. Niu asked Huang to accompany him to a seminar in Germany as a “serious good bye.” He had sex with her after the event was over, said the report.

She became pregnant afterwards, gave birth to his child and confessed to her husband. She later went to the university to ask Niu to admit his parentage of the child. DNA identification proved that the child is Niu, who resigned from the university due to the scandal.

Niu's wife, accusing Huang of seducing Niu, demanded NT$6 million compensation from Huang and her husband, whom Mrs. Niu accused of turning a blind eye on his wife adultery, said the report.

The court sentenced Huang to pay a NT$500,000 fine. Huang said that she will appeal to a higher court.
