The scenic Alishan Forest Recreation Area has been closed since Aug. 5 after the powerful Typhoon Morakot wreaked havoc on the mountainous area, cutting off traffic. The storm caused severe damage to key roads that connect the area with the outside world. “Main arterials are already repaired and it seems safe,” said a local tour company operator. Several stretches of narrow roads are still planked by severely eroded walls of mountain with falling rocks.
The vibrations from these buses will only worsen the situation.
It's a disaster waiting to happen.
